Another Soccer Game....

Last weekend The Daddy scored us some free FC Dallas soccer tickets.

I was sharing our Saturday nights plans with my dear "Working Moms" friends and Miss. Greta asked a question I'd never been asked before...

"Katie, do you like going to those games? Like, do you enjoy it?"

Well, if we are being honest, nearly everything comes in second to a quiet night with a great book in a warm bubble bath.

But some of my husband's favorite memories of his childhood were those spent with his Dad at sporting events- and he gets so excited when he has an opportunity to make those memories with his girls.

So it may be a long drive. And it may be hot. And I may have other things on my mind. But yes, I enjoy sitting in the stands and sharing a beer with Big Daddy or a Lemon Chill with my favorite peeps while my 7 year old patiently explains to me what just happened...

Locks of Love

I planted the seed that Ali should think about donating her hair to Locks of Love several months ago.

I explained how the charity works and who she would be helping.

She was hesitant at first but then decided she liked the idea.

So many girls get their identities wrapped up in their physical appearance and have "hair issues" all the way into adulthood.  I really want my girls to associate their identities with what they do, who they help, and how they act rather than how they look.  So I have always maintained the attitude that "it's just hair."

I can't put into words how proud I was today when my big girl explained to the hair stylist how excited she was to try short hair and help a "little girl who doesn't have any hair because she's sick".

And then the amused expressions of the stylists as my girls exchanged supportive comment after supportive comment to each other...
"Mia!  You look like you should be in Kindergarten!"
"Ali!  You look like you're at least 7 or 9 or 79!"
"OMG Mia - you look so pretty with sparkles in your hair!"
"Ali - when I'm 7, I'm going to cut my hair short like yours!"

I just love these girls.

We started by relaxing and calming our nerves with a Mommy-Daughters pedicure.

Mia sat so still and quiet, I thought she was going to doze off!
She got an all over trim, blow dry fluff and sparkles.
Considering this was her 3rd haircut EVER,
I think we have a ways to go before she gets to donate a ponytail!

I am so, so proud of her!
And I think she looks darling.

Rumble at Mickey D's

It went down this morning.

It started when the husky hispanic kid shoved Jamey down the twisty slide.

He should have known.

You don't mess with "Big Boss and the Posse".

Ali stalked the kid through the tubey toys until she had him cornered.

He didn't take kindly to her authoritative tone and pinched her ears.

Mia didn't take kindly to the kid's disrespect and stormed after him all the way to the ball pit.

That's when the kid turned around and right into Mia's pointed, shaking finger.  The slap hit Mia right below the left eye.

Eva didn't take kindly to her big sister's howling and toddled after the kid shaking her yogurt-covered spoon and shouting, "Uh-oh!  Uh-oh!  Uh-oh!"

That's about when the kid turned tail and waited out the storm in the upper back corner of the tubey toys.

The Posse was then disbanded and dragged out to the get-away vehicles after the moms caught wind of "let's get him!" and "we'll talk trash!" and "next time".

Watch your back, husky hispanic kid.  Watch your back.

Mia "The Fist"

The Lion King and Resulting Nudity

When Ali was about 2 years old, she got hooked on Nemo.
She was a like a little addict - she couldn't get through the day without her Nemo fix.
Gramma even made her a pink Nemo blanket that she sleeps with to this day.

When Ali was  about 3 years old, Dora was all the rage.
She shouted random Spanish phrases and would congratulate herself on her many accomplishments by singing: "We did it!  We did it!  We did it! Yay!  Lo hicimos!"

When Mia was about 2 years old, she couldn't get enough of Elmo.
"Melmo" could take her from any activity and hold her mesmerized in front of the TV.
We watched so much Elmo that Mommy started referring to herself in the third person.

We have now entered a "shiny new era" (a quote from the movie).
Daddy bought the girls The Lion King and they have watched it countless times.
Not only can they narrate the whole movie - but they act out their favorite scenes in the living room.
This has been going on for over a week.

What does any of this have to do with nudity?
Everyone knows you can't crawl or pounce or fight Scar in a skirt.
And lions simply wear fur - not tee shirts.
So I have a couple little wild cats mewing and crawling and licking each others faces in various states of undress and a  little cub crawling around in her diaper.

"They'll grow out of it." I say.
"Oh yes.  They better, or they will find themselves without college tuition later." Daddy says.
