Graduation Gift

It's a good story.

I came home from a long day at clinical a few weeks ago,
(right before leaving for Galveston)
and while chatting with the girls and talking with Joe,
I noticed men -
half a dozen strange men -
in my backyard.
My whole family broke out in grins.

While I had been at work,
these men had been busy digging up my backyard
and getting ready to pour my new patio
and I had no idea.

I went outside to see what was going on
and the men all high-fived my husband.
"Does she know about the hot tub now too?"

Hot tub?
Did somebody say "hot tub"?!
Joe's grin got bigger and he showed me the new spa that had been
delivered  the day before and I hadn't even noticed it in our backyard.

The new pavement set in 24 hours and the men were back,
wiring our new hot tub and getting it set up.
I got to use it one time before going out to UTMB in Galveston for 3 weeks.

Best early graduation gift EVER.
My husband knows me well.

UTMB Galveston

Progress Note from Galveston:

Shifts completed:  8
Shifts left to complete:  4
Babies caught:  9
Days off wandering Galveston: 3
Historic Mansions toured: 2
Trips to the beach: 1
Times sunburned at beach: 1
Days till I see my honey and girls:  7

Of course I brought my new camera on my trip and have had lots of fun documenting my adventure!!

I can't get enough of these old houses.
People actually sit on these porches ALL DAY.  I love it.
I was slightly self-conscious about taking photos
with homeowners on porches, but I got over it.

Famous Galveston mansion, thoroughly toured by me.

Meet Woodruff.
I had no children to look after, so I babysat Mr. Droopey Face.

Part of the estate of mansion #2.
Thoroughly toured by myself.
And 8 retired couples.
I am such a dork.

Iris.
Almost as pretty and sweet as my niece.

Cherry blossom beach bench?!
I love Galveston.

I confess.
This was staged for the benefit of Mia.
Shhhhh.

Holy goats, Mia!
You'll never believe what I found on the beach!
I will bring it home for you.

Girls' initials in the sand.
As promised.

Daddy gets his own heart.

Proof.

I am used to the pacific coast and freezing cold water.
Blue lips.
The gulf is so warm!!

I drove to the northern most tip of the island.
San Jacinto Fort or Point or something.
Lots of fishing, lots of ships, lots of rocks.

More stats to come at the conclusion of my Galveston Adventure.
