So. I went to pick up Ms. Mia from preschool today and as I was buckling her into her seat in the back of the new MV, I noticed the vehicle next to me was still running - keys in the ignition - and nobody in the driver's seat. Next I noticed the two beautiful toddlers buckled in the back. I thought, "okay, Mom's getting the stroller." No. Mom (or it could have been Dad) had left the children in a running vehicle while she (or he) went into the school (COMPLETELY out of sight of the car) to pick up the other kids. I waited. And waited. Then I remembered the baby I left at home with Dad - and had to leave before I had a chance to tactfully remind the parent of the potentially devastating and dangerous situation she/he had left her/his children in.
ARRRGGG. Am I honestly the only person who watches Oprah??
When I got home, I called the preschool director and shared my observation. I asked her to post something in the weekly bulletin about this subject and she also agreed to post large red signs on the entrance reminding parents NOT to leave their BABIES in RUNNING VEHICLES while picking up other children.
